Creating a memorable slogan is one of the most challenging aspects of creating a brand. However, a good slogan is crucial because it communicates your brand’s tone of voice and determines the visual elements of your brand. Therefore, taking the time and effort to carefully craft a unique slogan that fits your brand identity is crucial. We’re here to help you brainstorm by sharing the step-by-step guide we use when dreaming up slogans for our clients.

Determine your brand’s tone:

Firstly, write down your brand tone to ensure you don’t fall to off the rails during your brainstorming session. We like to write down our client’s brand tone in giant bold letters at the top of our brainstorming whiteboard before we begin to go any further. 

Look up competitor slogans: 

We don’t want to copy our competitors. However, you can take some inspiration from them to determine the main buzzwords used in your industry. Additionally, competitor research determines which competitors fall flat in their branding and which succeed, helping you ensure your branding stands out in your industry. 

Come up with some buzz words AKA word vomit: 

Our favorite part of the brainstorming session is word vomiting. It’s definitely funner than it sounds. All you need to do is spit out words that you think fit your brand’s tone and theme. You never know when you will say a phrase or word that will be the perfect fit for your slogan. Therefore, don’t be afraid to sound like a fool. We definitely sound foolish when we’re brainstorming at times, but that’s what makes it fun. 

Put the buzz words together: 

Your brainstorming whiteboard might be looking a bit like alphabet soup right now, but don’t panic. Take some notes or open up a document and organize your thoughts by putting those buzz words together to make a phrase. 

Make sure your slogan is short and punchy: 

You don’t want your slogan to be long and convoluted. If your slogan is looking a little too long right now, try taking out some filler words. Additionally, a punchy slogan is our favorite type of slogan. Punchy is defined as convincing and impactful. Regardless of what your brand tone is, you want to ensure it’s punchy to evoke action within your target audience when they read your slogan.
